Understanding how to play paintball is relatively simple: aim your marker away from your team and towards the opposite team and eliminate them. It’s that easy. Or is it? Paintball is a game that can be played many ways, from just straight elimination, capture the flag, or even VIP type of games. With all the different rules to play in paintball one thing remains the same—basic strategy.

Basic strategy will help you win more games and makes the game a lot more fun as you can coordinate your efforts with your friends. Depending on the size of your team you might want to break up your team into smaller fire squads of four or five players. This allows the whole team flexibility to out maneuver and flank the enemy team. Another basic strategy is bunny hopping where 2 or three players cover with suppressing fire so that another 2 or three players can move up. After the move is completed the leading players can now use suppressing fire to let the others move up. This allows a safe way to make moves up the field. This action takes a coordinated effort as letting someone move up without the proper cover can lead up to a swift elimination. If possible, planning out an attack before the game actually starts can lead to a win quickly. Identifying key positions to hold will allow your team pivots to out flank the other team.

With these tips for basic strategy, you can successfully own the recreational paintball field.
