Spyder Marker And You
Author: David Diaz
The Spyder marker is one of the most popular entry level markers in paintball. They are easy to maintain and are very dependable.

The Spyder is a blowback marker. A blowback marker is a marker that fires by releasing a sear and pushing a hammer with a spring. The hammer then hits a valve which releases air through to the bolt to propel the paintball but the air also pushes the hammer back and catches the sear and is ready to fire again. With this type of marker, not many things can go wrong while operating the marker.

  1. The electronic trigger: the marker isn’t firing. This can happen if either the battery is dead or dying. You want to replace the battery regularly and use a battery with the right amount of voltage. Sometimes the solenoid which activates the sear isn’t strong enough to activate the sear. If that occurs and there is a fresh battery, you can try to shimmy the solenoid with a dime which will assist in activating the sear.
  2. Air is leaking out of the barrel or bolt. This can happen if the o-rings on the internal valve are damaged or needs to be oiled. Also the pin can be stuck in a depressed state by a damaged seal or debris. Take apart your marker according to the diagram included and check your valve.
  3. The marker seems to “fart” this can happen if you are out of CO2 or compressed air. Refill your tank and see if that fixes the problem. If it does not and you have to continue to re-cock to shoot, it could be the o-rings on the hammer are damaged or need gun oil as not enough pressure from the valve is pushing the hammer back far enough or too much air is escaping past the o-rings on the hammer.

If the marker is still not working properly after trying all the suggestions, take it to a reputable paintball store and they would definitely be able to help you out.
